A Man of the Movies

One of the leading pioneers of the film industry was neither an actor nor a director. He was a commercial artist who created such popular and familiar cartoon characters as Mickey Mouse Donald Duck. The man was Walter Disney.

Disney did not start out as a rich man; but he had a lot of ideas, which reflected imagination and creativity. Walt Disney was born in Chicago on December, 5 1901. Then his family left that city in the North of America for a place in the South. When Walt Disney grew up, he began to draw pictures and create cartoons. He began his career when he successfully borrowed three hundred dollars to start his own workshop in the back part of a small garage. Working long and hard, he became a respected man and a talented cartoonist. In 1920, while living in Kansas City, Missouri, he got his first work on a motion-picture cartoon. The result was successful and in 1923 he moved on to Hollywood. Soon, he was producing animated cartoons, movies, and television shows.

Some of Walt Disney's most popular efforts1 are consider classics today. These include Fantasia and Snow White. He also produced nature documentaries and adventure films. Once he got an idea to create a mouse character - a funny friendly little thing, who could speak, dance and sing, and could live like a man. His wife suggested calling him Mickey. In 1928 the audience2 saw Mickey Mouse оn the screen for the first time. In 1932 Walt Disney got his first Oscar for his Mickey Mouse.

Walt Disney worked not only in the sphere of show business; Disney also took upon himself a big project to construct a combination of a wonderland and an amusement park. The result can be seen today in Disneyland situated in California. Disneyland quickly became popular and successful. Later another great project, Disney World, was put into life in Florida. It is a prominent tourist attraction too. At Disneyland you can have a voyage on a boat, take a train, you can travel to stars, take a trip to the mountains, you can meet all the Disney characters.

Although Disney died in 1966, his creative genius and active mind3 continue to live through the entertainment that he left for us. All in all, Walter Disney got 29 Oscars.
